Polacrillin Potassium is derived from crosslinked Polymer of Polycarboxylic Acids & has a K+ ionic form. Polacrillin Potassium is a very high purity Polymer finding use in pharmaceutical formulations as a Tablet Disintegrant in the oral dosage formulations.

Applications

Disintegrating Agent Polacrillin Potassium has a very high swelling tendancy on hydration either in contact with water or G.I. fluids causing very fast disintegration without the formation of lumps and thus acts as an effective tablet disintegrant.

Few of the advantages over other conventional tablet disintegrants are as under :

» Rapid Disintegration
» Elimination of lump formation
» Compatibility with other theraupatic agents & excipients.
» Imparts excellent strenght to the tablet & also eliminates the sticking to the dyes and punch. Required quantity is from 0.5 to 4% to get this property.

Toxicity

Polacrillin Potassium is high molecular weight polymer so can't be absorbed by body tissues & is safe for human consumption. It has no any physiological action at recommended dosage & it is non-toxic.

Storage

Store in tightly closed container. Keep away from moisture. If moisture is absorbed dry at 90°C to 100°C to remove moisture content below 10%.
